Liam’s Musical Table

Liam is living with cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair to help him move around the community. Liam lives with low vision and epilepsy and his mother, Dianne cares for him full time.

Liam is a happy, affectionate 21-year-old boy who enjoys playing music.

Liam is very active. He enjoys many sports including bike riding, swimming and sailing and he loves going to the Big Bash cricket matches and to the football with his family,” said mum, Dianne.

Liam is living with cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair to help him move around the community. Liam lives with low vision and epilepsy and his mother, Dianne cares for him full time.

Seeing Liam do what he loves, independently, was always a challenge for Dianne.

“I would have to sit at the table with him for hours to make sure he didn’t fall over and hurt himself. I would also make sure he didn’t throw any instruments around as he likes to throw things, and so he could reach them all.”

This meant Dianne had little time to do other things as she had to supervise Liam.

“I kept thinking it would be really good if we could secure the instruments into a table. I had been thinking about it for a while, so when he chooses to play, he can go and do it independently.”

Dianne was familiar with TAD and their services so reaching out to them for help was quick and simple for her.

I’ve had a few things made over the years and they have always been so great, so I contacted them to see what we could do for Liam.”

With the help of the Cecilia Kilkeary Foundation, Dianne was able to get a custom table with musical instruments mounted for Liam.

“This table is good for him. He can now sit there safely and play whenever he wants. This table has given him new independence and he is enjoying making music!”

Dianne appreciated the help of TAD volunteer, Jim Barrett.

“Our volunteer was excellent. He was very quick, super-efficient and so friendly. Jim worked out how Liam could reach all the instruments, the placement of each one and how to secure them all to the table. It was great!”

Dianne was so thankful to TAD’s commitment to helping provide the right solution for Liam.

“I always tell people when they are looking for different solutions, have you tried TAD? It is so hard to find what you need, and TAD will work to try and find a solution for you”.

“I would like to say Thank you to the Cecilia Kilkeary Foundation for their support and that Liam is enjoying being independent in playing his music. His music table has made this possible. I will try to send some photos through on a separate email.”
