Meet Rianna

Rianna is a social 8-year-old who loves being out and about. She is living with Cerebral Palsy and she uses a walker day-to-day, but needs some help to do some activities.

Cerebral Palsy often leads to muscle tightness. Her occupational therapist recommended “long sitting” to stretch out her hamstrings and improve her movement to decrease her risk of needing painful surgery.

“It's critical to do stretching on a regular basis,” says mum Joanna.

The family had tried long sitting on the floor but this was not effective. It was very difficult to get Rianna in a position long enough to get an effective stretch.

So TAD built a custom chair to help with her stretching program.

Joanna says that “TAD’s corner table and chair has been a tremendous help. We know that when Rianna uses it she is getting a great hamstring stretch.”

A platform for her feet was also added to ensure the stretch is as effective as possible. A table was also added to allow Rianna to do table top activities while stretching, whether it be play, homework or having a meal.

Solve-TAD acknowledges the traditional owners of country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures and to elders past, present and emerging.
